What Panax ginseng is

Panax ginseng, also called Asian or Korean ginseng, is one of the most widely used herbs in the world. Its active compounds are called ginsenosides. Glucovive lists the aerial extract, meaning the parts above ground rather than only the root.

Why it is in Glucovive

Ginseng is included for two connected reasons. Ginsenosides have been studied for glucose uptake into muscle cells — muscle is where a large share of glucose gets used — and ginseng has a long research history around fatigue and mental tiredness.

What the research actually says

• Aerial extract is less studied than root extract, and the two are not interchangeable.
• Ginsenoside content is not published for this formula.
• Ginseng interacts with a number of medicines — this is not one to add casually.

Safety notes

Talk to your doctor before taking ginseng if you are on blood thinners such as warfarin, diabetes medicine, blood pressure medicine, or antidepressants. Some people find ginseng affects sleep, which is another reason the morning dose makes sense.
